Day 1: Danang Arrival

Day 1: Hanoi arrival
Arrive in bustling Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. As passengers will be arriving at various times today, there are no planned activities

Day 2: Hanoi (B)
Today you visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Museum. The Mausoleum houses the remains of Ho Chi Minh, the founding father of the unified Vietnam (the mausoleum and museum is closed October-November), pass by Tran Quoc Pagoda and Quan Thanh Temple for your luck pray. On the afternoon, spend 2 hour with the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu). Late afternoon or early evening we take a Cyclo ride through the Old Quarter and onwards to a performance at the famous Water Puppet Theatre.

Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B,L,D)
A 3-4 hour drive from Hanoi brings us to Halong Bay. Thousands of islands rise dramatically from the waters of Halong Bay and, to further their beauty, intricate caves have been hollowed out through these limestone karsts formations. Aboard a sailing junk visit some of these islands and caves, perhaps taking a pre-dinner swim, before spending a peaceful night beneath the stars.

Day 4: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Hue (B,L)
In the morning continue the cruise to Man's Head Island and Tortoise Island and visit Luon cave by small bamboo boat. After an early lunch on board, we head back to Hanoi with time for shopping or further sightseeing until the overnight train to Hue (approx 13hrs).

Day 5: Hue (B)
We arrive into Hue mid morning and will transfer to our hotel. It's then time to explore Hue, once the imperial capital. We can visit Thien Mu Pagoda and one of the Nguyen emperor’s tombs whilst soaking up the scenery of the countryside.

Day 6: Hue – Hoi An (B)
We'll take a morning tour around the Citadel which also contains the Forbidden Purple City, modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Badly destroyed during the Tet Offensive in 1968, significant restoration work has since occurred. Late morning or early afternoon we'll drive over the Hai Van Pass and in to Hoi An arriving late afternoon (approx 4hrs).

Day 7: Hoi An (B)
The picturesque port town of Hoi An, once known as Fabio, was an important trading town with strong south Chinese influence and connections. We suggest you take a walking tour of this living museum which includes the Museum of History and Culture, the Tan Ky house, the Japanese bridge, the Fujian Assembly Hall and lunch at a riverside restaurant to sample some of the local delicacies.

Day 8: Hoi An – Da Nang (B)
We leave Hoi An and drive to Danang (45 min) for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh Just north of Hoi An is Danang, a major US military base during the war and site of an excellent museum documenting Cham art and history.

Day 9: Da Nang – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
A short flight takes us to Ho Chi Minh City, the sprawling metropolis that once was the capital of South Vietnam and remains the country’s commercial center.We take a short Cyclo tour passing some of the cities main sights stopping for some rational Vietnamese food. You can also visit the Thien Hau and Giac Vien pagodas and stroll through the immense Ben Thanh Market. Continue if you wish with a visit to Reunification Palace, the residence of the presidents of South Vietnam before 1975. Or better still leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and head to the Saigon Water Park.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh – Mekong Delta (B,L,D)
Drive south of Saigon and the change of pace down in the Mekong Delta. Thousands of small islands and inlets are formed down here as the mighty Mekong river splinters up before reaching the South China Sea.A boat trip through floating markets and small villages shows a different side of Vietnamese life. Be amazed at how the locals rely on the Mekong for everything! We will spend the night in a small village down in the delta with a great chance to interact with the locals.

Day 11: Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Return in the afternoon to Ho Chi Minh City for some last minute shopping before we have our last night dinner together.

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh departure (B)
After breakfast, the tour ends and you are free to depart at any time.

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh – Chau Doc (B)Travel by bus (approx 6 hours) through the Mekong Delta to the town of Chau Doc where there is time to take in the local culture and experience life on the river.

Day 3: Chau Doc – Phnom Penh (B)We cross in to Cambodia by boat. After breakfast, we board the public boat and head up the Mekong to the border. After processing all the formalities, we continue on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital arriving mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon we take a short cyclo tour of Phnom Penh.

Day 4: Phnom Penh (B)
Today we witness the dark side of Cambodian history with visits to Choeng Ek, the site of the infamous Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng prison, the notorious Khmer Rouge prison where thousands of Cambodians perished. Afterwards, you have free time to explore the cities many sights: the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum. There is time to visit the huge Russian Market packed with souvenirs and all the necessities of daily life. Late afternoon is a great time to visit Wat Phnom where the sanctuary for which the city is named once stood. It is a Buddhist shrine, although a Taoist goddess and numerous monkeys also reside here, and one of the pleasure spots for residents of the city. A drink in one of the many riverside café’s watching the sunset is a fitting finale to the day.


Day 5: Phnom Penh – Siem Reap (B)
After a short flight to Siem Reap, explore Angkor, the former capital of the Khmer kingdom and one of the wonders of the archeological world. Rediscovered at the end of the 19th century by French explorers this vast ruined city is becoming one of the most popular sites in Southeast Asia

Day 6: Siem Reap (B)
Visit some of the highlights of this ancient capital, like the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, the enigmatic Bayon within the walled city of Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm, also known as the 'Tomb Raider' temple.

Today you will be entirely free with full day relaxation before taking a long journey in next day. Let’s refresh your energy!

Day 8: Siem Reap – Bangkok (B)
A long day's bus ride takes us from the countryside of Cambodia to the modern kingdom of Thailand. Please note that the road on the Cambodian side is mostly unsealed and very bumpy (Approx 5 hrs), the border crossing formalities can take up to two hours as well. Yet, once we reach the Thailand side, the roads are smooth for our drive to Bangkok (3-4 hrs). Please note that road conditions in Cambodia can deteriorate very quickly during the rainy season. In extreme circumstances the road is impassable and we will have to fly to Bangkok. We have time to check-in to our centrally located hotel and head out for an evening meal and time to take in the local nightlife

Day 9: Bangkok departure (B)

Day 3: Nha Trang (B)
Arrive in Nha Trang in the morning. Explore the local shops and markets, sit on the beach soaking up the sun or visit nearby historical towns. Optional activities can include a boat trip to nearby islands for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Day 4: Nha Trang – Da Nang (B)
Today is free for your leisure on beach or refresh yourself at one of most beautiful beach in Vietnam. On the evening, we take an overnight train to Danang.

Day 5: Da Nang – Hoi An (B)
From Danang, it is only a short drive to the picturesque port town of Hoi An, once known as Fabio, was an important trading town with strong south Chinese influence and connections.

Day 6: Hoi An (B)
You can take a walking tour of this living museum which includes the Museum of History and Culture, the Tan Ky house, the Japanese bridge, the Fujian Assembly Hall and lunch at a riverside restaurant to sample some of the local delicacies. Hoi An is also a shopping Mecca for tourists in the region – tailors can produce virtually anything overnight – clothing, silk lanterns, lacquer ware and other crafts abound. And for sun worshipers, Cua Dai Beach is 4kms from town.

Day 7: Hoi An – Hue (B)
Just a 3 hour drive to the north of Hoi An is the city of Hue. Our drive takes us over Hai Van Pass and past Lang Co Beach. Upon arrival in Hue, once the imperial capital, you can take an optional tour to the Citadel which also contains the Forbidden Purple City, modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Day 8: Hue – Hanoi (B)
You travel by boat along the Perfume River to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and the tombs of two of the Emperors Minh Mang and Khai Dinh, or hop on a motorbike for a countryside tour. Late Afternoon or early evening board an overnight sleeper train to Hanoi.

Day 9: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B,L)
Arrive in the early morning to bustling Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. We will then transfer to a private bus for a 3 hour drive to Halong Bay. Thousands of islands rise dramatically from the waters of Halong Bay and, to further their beauty, intricate caves have been hollowed out through these limestone karsts formations. Aboard a sailing junk we'll enjoy a seafood lunch before visiting some of these islands and caves. Perhaps we'll have a chance to take a pre-dinner swim, before transferring to the mainland for our overnight stay.

Day 10: Halong Bay – Hanoi (B)
After breakfast, we'll transfer back to Hanoi. Upon returning to Hanoi you can take a walk through Hanoi's Old Quarter – a maze of streets, each one traditionally devoted to a different product or industry. In the evening you have an option to attend a performance at the famous Water Puppet Theatre. Vietnamese food is one of the world’s most delightful of cuisines, and we'll say good bye over a meal in the Old Quarter.

Mekong Delta of today remains unchanged, allowing travelers the chance to experience Vietnam & Cambodia the way it was during the colonial era

Day 1, SAIGON
Welcome onboard the RV La Marguerite where the vessel is moored at the Saigon port. Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City, is peppered with old French colonial architecture along the riverside. Check-in is at 12h00 where port and immigration formalities will be conducted. After checking in, freshen up and enjoy the fascinating views of the Saigon River either from your private balcony or from the sun deck. At 14h00, the ship departs Saigon sailing through the international waterways, up the broad Mekong Tributary. Tonight join fellow passengers onboard for Welcome Dinner at the Mekong Restaurant.

Day 2, CAI BE – SA DEC
Arriving at Cai Be in the morning, early risers could enjoy crimson sunrise on the sun deck. After breakfast, sail through Cai Be's floating market; go ashore to visit the French Gothic Cathedral, colorful flower gardens and local rice paper manufacturers. Cruise past Vinh Long Province and arrive at Sa Dec for an afternoon walk. French writer Marguerite Duras spent some of her childhood in Sa Dec, a sprawling busy town. In Sa Dec, director Jean-Jaques Annaud shot much of his 1992 film "The Lover". Aside from the fact that the French have long departed, not a lot has changed in Sa Dec since Duras' day. Warehouses, mostly old Chinese shop-houses, bulge with merchandise. Ancient riverboats load and unload at the wharves built almost to the shop doors. Both the school where Duras' mother taught and the small house behind it where the family lived still stand. Spend time in the house of Mr Huynh Thuy Le, Duras' Chinese lover. The house is now the "The Lover Museum" in Sa Dec. In the evening, cruise through the Mekong Delta to Tan Chau

Day 3, TAN CHAU – BORDER CROSSING
Tan Chau is a remote small town on the main Mekong River. After breakfast, transfer to small boats visiting a catfish farm, rice-polishing factory, mat making workshop and a silk weaving workshop. Take a round trip trishaw ride around this fascinating town. We return to the ship by boat for lunch and cast off for the Cambodian border for port and immigration formalities. In the evening, cruise up the broad Mekong River, an international shipping route and moor overnight mid-stream just outside of Phnom Penh

Day 4, PHNOM PENH
Early morning cruise into Phnom Penh and dock at the passenger port terminal. This capital of Cambodia retains its French charm with old colonial architecture framing busy cafes. The city has several impressive Wats, including Wat Ounalom, Wat Phnom and the newly painted Wat Lang Ka. Visit the Royal Palace, the spectacular Silver Pagoda, one of the few places in Cambodia where the Khmer Rouge preserved artifacts embodying the brilliance and richness of Khmer culture. The National Museum is another highlight, with outstanding displays of Khmer crafts. An afternoon excursion is arranged to the Killing Fields and the Khmer Rouge's grim Tuol Sleng or S21 detention center.

Day 5, PHNOM PENH – KAMPONG CHAM
Early morning departs from Phnom Penh and stop at secluded Chong Koh silk weaving village for a leisurely walk. Cruise past the Mekong's timeless villages with extensive fishing activities. The scenery is serene, and in the distance, forested hills rise. On the river above Phnom Penh there is real Cambodian life. In the afternoon, stop at Peam Chi Kang village visit the Wat or Monastery and its school. Explore this peaceful and friendly community at your own pace. In the Wat, splendid village racing boats are stored. Anchor mid-stream at Kampong Cham

Day 6, KAMPONG CHAM AREA
In the morning, journey upriver to the hilltop. Pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey. Dating back to the 8th century, these ancient brick structures characterize the architecture of the Chenla Empire, which predated the glories of Angkor. Sail back downstream for an exploration of the Kampong Cham Area. Travel by bus to the 12th century Angkorian temple of Wat Nokor. This colorful temple is unique in Cambodia, as a modern Wat, it is set within the ruins of an ancient temple. Continue to the Eco Village of Cheungkok. There are many pagodas and shrines on the hilltops

Day 7, TONLE RIVER
Sail along Tonle River, which connects Tonle Lake with the Mekong and Bassac Rivers at Phnom Penh. Winding through the jungles, coming up close with local river folks. Temples abound along the riverbanks at Kampong Chhnang and we witness a rich tapestry of Cambodian rural life. This is a busy rural port town with bustling markets. Mooring mid-stream, visit lakeside wetlands that form the mouth of the river. Here a stunning variety of bird life are seen and be amazed at the schools of fish migrating from the lake into the Tonle River

Day 8, TON LE LAKE – SIEM REAP
The great lake over 150 km long, dominates Cambodia. Here bird life is profuse. From the middle of the lake, enjoy the stillness and tranquility along the floating fishing villages. And we will either cross Tonle Lake at dawn and disembark at Siem Reap Port or transfer by coach from Prek Kdam on the Tonle River to Siem Reap stopping for a short rest at Kampong Thom, depending on the water levels. Arrive at Siem Reap and bid farewell to fellow travelers and crew members

Day 1: Hanoi arrival
Arrive in bustling Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. As passengers will be arriving at various times today, there are no planned activities. Some suggestions include: Taking a walk through Hanoi's Old Quarter – a maze of street, each one traditionally devoted to a different product or industry. In the evening attend a performance at the famous Water Puppet Theatre. Visit Tran Quoc Pagoda, the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu) or Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Museum. The Mausoleum houses the remains of Ho Chi Minh, the founding father of the unified Vietnam (the mausoleum and museum is closed in October-December)

Day 2: Hanoi - Halong Bay (B,L,D)
Transfer by road (approx 3 hours) to Halong Bay to board a traditional 'Junk' boat which will be home for the evening. Halong Bay is considered Vietnam's greatest natural wonder; expect to be awed by the amazing limestone karsts jutting dramatically from the water. Perhaps a pre-dinner swim or kayak before enjoying a seafood dinner and a very peaceful night beneath the stars. Take the opportunity to visit some of the caves en-route and stop at one of the secluded bays for swimming (weather permitting). Overnight will be spent on the boat which has comfortable air conditioned private cabins.

Day 3: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Hue (B,L)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast served on board as the Junk continues to cruise throughout the morning, stopping by the islands of Man's Head and Turtle Island. A visit to Luon cave by small bamboo boat is also possible. After an early lunch on board the boat, head back to Hanoi with time for shopping or further sightseeing until our overnight train to Hue. The train to Hue is part of the famous Reunification express. This is a local basic train and we have 4 berth shared cabins.
Day 4: Hue (B)
Arrive early into Hue, once the imperial capital. A true highlight of Hue is the surrounding countryside. We can visit Thien Mu Pagoda and continue on to the tomb of Nguyen Emperors.

Day 5: Hue – Hoi An (B)
In the morning, we go on a guided tour around the Citadel which also contains the Forbidden Purple City, modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Badly destroyed during the Tet Offensive in 1968 significant restoration work has since occurred. Late morning we board our private bus and make the 4 hour drive to Hoi An crossing over Hai Van Pass (subject to weather conditions). We may also have time to stop at Lang Co Beach. We will arrive in Hoi An late evening.

Day 6: Hoi An (B)
The picturesque port town of Hoi An, once known as Fabio, was an important trading town with strong south Chinese influence and connections. As you walk amongst this living museum you could visit sites such as the Museum of History and Culture, the Tan Ky house, the Japanese bridge, the Fujian Assembly Hall and lunch at a riverside restaurant to sample some of the local delicacies. Hoi An is also a shopping Mecca for tourists in the region – tailors can produce virtually anything overnight – clothing, silk lanterns, lacquer ware and other crafts abound.

Day 7: Hoi An – Da Nang (B)
Just north of Hoi An is Danang, a major US military base during the war and site of an excellent museum documenting Cham art and history.

Day 8: Da Nang – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Drive to Danang airport for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City, the sprawling metropolis that was once the capital of South Vietnam and remains the country’s commercial center.
During your free time you can take a tour by cyclo (rickshaw) to various sights around town. See Notre Dame Cathedral, Gustav Eiffel's Post Office, the Opera House, Rex Hotel, and town hall or you may wish to visit the War Remnants Museum or the Reunification Palace.

Day 9: Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Visit the Cu Chi tunnels west of Ho Chi Minh City. With our guide, explore the underground network of man-made tunnels dug by the local Vietnamese to hide and fight during the war.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh departure (B)After breakfast, the tour ends and you are free to depart at any time

Day 1: Hanoi arrival

Day 2: Hanoi – Lao Cai (B)
Today you visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Museum. The Mausoleum houses the remains of Ho Chi Minh, the founding father of the unified Vietnam (the mausoleum and museum is closed October-November), pass by Tran Quoc Pagoda and Quan Thanh Temple for your luck pray. On afternoon , spend 2 hour with the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu). On the evening, we will board the overnight train to Lao Cai.

Day 3: Lao Cai – Sapa (B)
After arriving in Lao Cai in the morning, we transfer 45 minutes to Sapa. An afternoon excursion will take us to the village of Ta Phin where we'll have a chance to interact with some of the local ethnic minorities such as H'mong, Dao, and Zai. We will spend an hour or two strolling through the villages before returning to Sapa early evening.

Day 4: Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi (B)
We can take walking onto Dragon’s Jaw mountain, enjoy traditional music performance, walking through Sapa local market. Take the afternoon to relax before catching our overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 5: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B,L,D)
We'll arrive off the train in Hanoi in the early morning and transfer directly to Halong Bay (3 hours).Thousands of islands rise dramatically from the waters of Halong Bay and, to further their beauty, intricate caves have been hollowed out through these limestone karsts formations. Aboard a sailing junk visit some of these islands and caves, perhaps taking a pre-dinner swim, before spending a peaceful night beneath the stars.

Day 6: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Hue (B,L)
In the morning, continue the cruise to Man's Head Island and Tortoise Island and visit Luon cave by small bamboo boat. After an early lunch on board head back to Hanoi with time for shopping or further sightseeing until our overnight train to Hue (approx 13hrs).

Day 7: Hue (B)
We arrive into Hue mid morning and will transfer to our hotel. It's then time to explore Hue, once the imperial capital. We can visit Thien Mu Pagoda and one of the Nguyen emperors tombs whilst soaking up the scenery of the countryside.

Day 8: Hue – Hoi An (B)
We'll take a morning tour around the Citadel which also contains the Forbidden Purple City, modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Late morning or early afternoon we'll drive over the Hai Van Pass and in to Hoi An arriving late afternoon (approx 4hrs).

We leave Hoi An and drive to Danang (45 min) for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City is a sprawling metropolis that was once the capital of South Vietnam and remains the country’s commercial center.
You can take a tour by cyclo (rickshaw) to various sights around town. See Notre Dame Cathedral, Gustav Eiffel's Post Office, the Opera House, Rex Hotel, and town hall or you may wish to visit the War Remnants Museum or the Reunification Palace.

Day 11: Ho Chi Minh – Mekong Delta (B)
Head south to the Mekong Delta where we'll spend the night with a local family. Exploring by boat and on foot, we'll experience a different lifestyle from what we've seen elsewhere in Vietnam.A 2-3 hour drive takes us to Vinh Long where we will board our covered, wooden boat to explore the Mekong Delta and have a chance to see the local cottage industries of this area.

Day 12: Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
After breakfast we head back to Ho Chi Minh.

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh departure (B)
Departure is after breakfast, when our tour ends
